The mobile shop
The idea of the Migros sales vehicle began in 1925 with a Model T Ford and ended on 30.11.2007 with the final round made by this vehicle in Valais. Whereas in the early years the mobile shops only offered six cut-price items, customers in the last Migros sales vehicle could take their pick from 1’100 different products. The reason for terminating this service was thus more related to the high operating costs and the growing hygiene requirements than consumer dissatisfaction with the choice available. Before the legendary Swiss truck makers Saurer (Arbon) and FBW (Wetzikon) were absorbed entirely into Mercedes, from 1982 until 2000 they produced vehicles under the name NAW (Nutzfahrzeuggesellschaft Arbon & Wetzikon). The last Migros sales vehicle thus also represents the last generation of Swiss trucks.
